GPT-6 Astra is not AGI, but its computer use is the first real step forward I've felt since Claude Code. Here's my grounded review, one week in. I've been a software engineer for 15 years, currently at Meta, and I usually skip model reviews. Most of them compare two models on a single prompt, which is a crapshoot even with the same model, and it's not how anyone building real software works. But GPT-6 Astra's computer use and long-running agent workflows deserved a real test. So instead of a demo prompt, I gave it the most tedious job in shipping: submit my React Native community app to the App Store, and test it on mobile first because I never had. It launched the iOS simulator through Xcode, tested every screen on its own, found and fixed 17 bugs, built the account-deletion and moderator-report flows Apple requires, tested on iPad, generated the icon and assets, and shipped every change through my no-mistakes code review gate as a spec and a PR. About six hours, roughly half my monthly usage on the 200 dollar plan. That's the impressive half. The other half is why I'm uneasy. An agent that can do anything on a computer for hours needs governance: isolated environments, a separate email, an overseer agent with a kill switch. We watched people get burned by OpenClaw for skipping exactly this. And underneath all of it is the alignment problem, which I don't think reinforcement training solves once the model is smarter than the people training it. This is less structured than my tutorials. It's what I actually think about GPT-6, the hype cycle, and what an individual can do about any of it. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN • Why single-prompt model comparisons are misleading, and how engineers actually evaluate a new model • What GPT-6 Astra computer use did with one prompt: simulator testing, 17 bug fixes, App Store assets, iPad support • How the agent discovered and followed my no-mistakes code review convention without being told • When long-running autonomous agents are safe and when they cost you control of your codebase • Token cost and time of a real six-hour agent run on the 200 dollar Max plan • How to run a computer-use agent safely: isolated environments, scoped accounts, and an overseer with a kill switch • The alignment problem in plain terms, and why "do as I say, not as I do" won't work on a model trained on all of us CHAPTERS 00:00 GPT-6 Astra First Impressions: Not AGI, But Computer Use Caught My Attention 01:30 Why Single-Prompt Model Comparisons Are Misleading 04:50 Testing GPT-6 Astra Computer Use: Shipping a React Native App to the App Store 09:56 The Results: 17 Bugs Fixed, PRs Through the No-Mistakes Gate, Full Submission 13:58 The Fear: Rogue Agents and Missing Safeguards (OpenClaw Lessons) 16:56 Governance and Oversight: Isolated Environments and a Kill Switch 20:24 Token Costs, Who Gets Access, and Wealth Inequality 22:57 The Alignment Problem and "Do As I Say, Not As I Do" 28:15 Closing Thoughts: Optimism, Responsibility, and Final Verdict on GPT-6 Astra TOOLS MENTIONED no-mistakes — the code review gate the agent shipped every PR through, by Kun Chen: https://github.com/kunchenguid/no-mistakes The app it shipped is The Workshop, my community app (React Native): https://jasonk.us/workshop VIDEOS MENTIONED ▶️ The 4 Levels of Coding With AI — where I explain the review gate and the autonomous spec-and-gate workflow: https://youtu.be/Z30YKmBEXf4 ▶️ The Future of Software Engineering — why the bottleneck moved from writing code to verifying it: [ADD LINK] LINKS 🚀 Altitude — my app that teaches you to code and work with AI by building a real project inside a real coding agent.
