To do this PDD is constantly adapting to incorporate new technologies to better inform the public of NATO's missions and responsibilities. In this respect NATO organised another workshop that called "The Power of Soft Power- NATO's Public Diplomacy in the Digital World" and which took place on Tuesday, 27 March 2012 in Brussels. At the event, experts from the world's leading social media providers and leading minds on new media exchanged views on how new technologies can benefit a large organisation like NATO. The workshop challenged participants to assess two broad questions: What is NATO's place and voice in a global communications environment? And how can NATO connect to others in the global village to work jointly on key issues? A snapshot of the discussion is captured here, in a series of interviews conducted with the panelists during the event. In this clip Mr. Seib describes soft power as essential in international relations as an important alternative to relying heavily on hard power. In what he sees as the 'information century' Mr. Seib believes this is increasingly possible as the internet and social media empowers people by informing them, leading to increased participation in politics and greater democratization In this environment Seib believes that to maintain its relevance NATO needs to concentrate on more than fire power.
