Step by step! 1. put down a base coat of liquid latex (should dry mostly clear) in the heart mold being careful to keep your layers thin so things dry quickly (should dry 5-10 minutes if left alone, maybe 1 minute with the hair dryer, quicker with the heat gun) 2. The second latex layer is the most important, this will be the white on the heart, mix a dollop of the white paint in with 1/2 ounce of liquid latex which should make the layer mostly opaque, I would suggest looking at a reference photo to figure out where you want to put this ( I found horizontal motions with a q tip created a neat texture on the finished piece) 3. Let dry 4. Mix the heart wall color (you might have to make a few batches). I added 8 drops of red food coloring, 2 drops of purple and 1 drop of blue to Β½ oz of liquid latex and a tiny dollop of white paint to give it opacity. (more blue for a less vivacious look) 5. Apply four to eight layers of myocardium (the muscular tissue of the heart.) drying each layer before adding the next. You will know you are done when you have blocked out most of the light (you could probably get away with less as long as your foam is a good color inside the latex skin) 6. Using a q-tip apply a thin layer of liquid latex inside your 3 tubes, this should help glue the flaps later on ( might take a bit to dry) 7. Glue the tubes in to place with a little latex and stuff the open tips so they don’t fill with the expanding foam. 8. Pour in 1 oz of flex foam, if you would like to dye it I suggest β€œso strong” dye by smooth on. Alternately you can carve upholstery foam or sponges to fit in your mold to fill up that empty shell of a heart. 9. Now that everything is nice and dry, Peel the free flaps of the heart and fold them in on each other, the latex should stick to itself (eventually you will glue them together with a little more latex) 10. Free your heart! Should peel out no problem! 11. Mix up the final transparent crimson latex. To Β½ oz of liquid latex, add 7 drops of red, 1 drop of brown and 1 drop of blue. 12. Specifically, I would use this crimson to draw a line between the veins and to seal the back seam. Past that, more or less to personal taste, I suggest pooling more under overhangs but you do you. 13. Cut open the tube holes and glue the now loose flaps inside the veins (and aorta), pull out any loose cotton and paint the rest of the inside with some of the crimson 14. Add last little touches and let every thing dry, I added one last layer of uncolored liquid latex (finger painted on) to seal everything in Ok hope you enjoyed me pouring my heart out! See you next time πŸ«€ notes: -you can find the mold online by searching "jello heart mold" -keep the latex layers thin or they will take forever to dry -i would suggest trying to make sure you keep at least one small hole in the inside so air can squeeze out and flow back in (otherwise it will be sealed up tight like a balloon.) -If you want to keep the latex from sticking to itself (and little dust and hairs) you can dust it with talc powder (not baby powder) but this will remove its shine so it’s a trade off. #heart #fakeheart #heartprop #fakehearttutorial #heartpun #heartart #art #spookycraft #tutorial #spookytutorial
