Hello all, welcome to week 228 of my relearning guitar stroke recovery. This week, I was reflecting on the power of words and how they can shape our future. When you replace doubt and self-defeating thoughts with belief and encouragement, you open the door to success. For stroke survivors, this mindset shift can be a key to our recovery. It's important not to count ourselves out before even beginning our journey to recovery. The Bible teaches us that words hold immense power, capable of influencing the direction of life, building up or tearing down, and revealing the true condition of a person’s heart. Proverbs 18:21 famously states that "the tongue has the power of life and death." Jesus also taught that speech reveals the inner person, stating, "out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks" (Matthew 12:34). Therefore, it's crucial to use our words wisely, as they are a direct indicator of our spiritual health and character. Ephesians 4:29 instructs believers to avoid "unwholesome talk" and only speak words that "build others up according to their needs." This week let's focus on using our words to bring healing, encouragement, and truth to ourselves and those around us. For this week's practice, I decided to work on playing some Chicago Blues. Chicago blues guitarists like Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Elmore James, and Jimmy Rogers were pioneers of the electrified, amplified Delta sound that shaped modern rock and roll. Learning and playing these guitar licks felt like taking a step back in time. While I'm far from perfect, the important thing is that attempting this style is a victory in itself. Stroke warriors, never let your negative words hinder your recovery. Keep strumming for life and continue to push yourself to new heights. Final thoughts, the power of words cannot be underestimated in our stroke recovery journey. By replacing doubt and negativity with belief and encouragement, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities. Let's make a conscious effort this week to use our words to build ourselves up and those around us. Whether it's through playing music, talking to ourselves positively, or encouraging others, let's harness the power of words for our overall well-being and recovery. Remember, your words have the power to shape your future - choose them wisely.
