Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust (KORT) A dream that entails decades of relentless efforts, the trust and cooperation of innumerable individuals to become a reality The devastating earthquake of October 8, 2005 became the reason to dream this idea. Chaudhary Muhammad Akhtar, who came to Pakistan for the first time after the earthquake, established the institution in a small rented building in Mirpur city. And took the responsibility of raising hundreds of children orphaned by the earthquake. You all heartedly supported Chaudhary Muhammad Akhtar. The seed planted in 2005 is now flourishing as a tree, and its shade emerging from Azad Kashmir and spreading over the entire world. After Mirpur, the second magnificent KORT complex has been completed and operational in Swabi city of the Khyber Pakhtunkhawa In both complexes, hundreds of orphaned children are provided with accommodation, food, religious education, and modern education, along with the best sports facilities. In the acknowledgment of 19 years of services, KORT was honoured as the best and unique institution in South Asia during the UN Climate Change Conference COP 28 in Dubai Previously, the government of Pakistan bestowed Tamgha e Imtiaz to the Chairman KORT, Chaudhary Muhammad Akhtar. Over the past 19 years, KORT has transformed the lives of thousands of orphan children to make them productive organs of society. The activities of the KORT are not limited to just orphans and underprivileged children. Whether the devastating floods of 2010 and 2022 or the earthquake of 2019, the KORT not only provided relief goods to thousands of affected families, but also reconstructed and handed over hundreds of homes for the affected families. Expanding its presence beyond Pakistan and Azad Kashmir, the KORT is now extending its assistance to disaster-stricken people at the global level. For our oppressed Palestinian brethren, a convoy of trucks laden with relief goods has been reached to Gaza. After the 2022 earthquakes in Afghanistan, KORT sent dozens of trucks laden with relief goods of millions of rupees. After the 2023 earthquake in Turkey and Syria relief goods of million rupees were also sent there. KORT has built hundreds of houses for widows, martyrs of the Line of Control, families affected by natural disasters and incidents like fires. Besides, KORT also built dozens of government schools. Distribution of warm clothes among underprivileged students, wheelchairs for special people, and sewing machines for deserving women have continued since years. Besides that, in every Ramadhan, KORT provides food packages to thousands of deserving families every year. In the capital Islamabad and the city of Mirpur, for the first time, KORT built wheelchair-accessible public washrooms for special persons. Additionally, several water filtration plants have been installed in different cities of Azad Kashmir and Pakistan. The construction of first-ever and state- of-the-art Burn Care Center of Azad Kashmir is in full swing in Kotli. The center will be completed and be operational by the end of 2024. In the coming years, in addition to the establishment of the fully equipped modern university and technical institute in Mirpur, KORT is planning to launch microfinance projects to economically empower marginalized communities and enable them to stand on their own feet. The time has now come for the KORT's largest-ever project so far. After acquiring the land, groundbreaking has taken place for the latest and state-of-the-art 500- bed hospital in Mirpur. After Ramadan, construction work will be commenced on this project. It will be the largest and first-of-its-kind hospital in Azad Kashmir, where free of cost healthcare services will be provided to the poor and deserving people.
