Gate Guard Simulator sees us playing as a guard who works at the gate of a medieval town, and it's our job to let people in or send them packing! Once we've done our morning duty of opening the gate, we greet a line of potential entrants and ask for their papers. We need to check their name, date of birth, various crests, stuff like that, to make sure they are who they say they are. As the days pass more and more checks are needed, such as making sure the Clergy have suitable accreditation and the Nobles present proper documentation. Some items are prohibited so we need to check people's pockets and bags for contraband, such as poison, swords and... carrots... Also we need to check merchant wagons for potentially illegal hidden items. If we catch troublemakers we can chuck them into the dungeon or lock them in the pillory, providing they don't try to run first! Oh, and also we acquire a pet dog, and we all know what we name it... Stay current on the news to learn which pests or which people are not welcome in the castle. And always watch for disease! Uphold the law or look the other way, but your decisions will determine your pay, and maybe the fate of the kingdom. No two citizens are alike, and you’ll need to choose the right set of tools to verify their story. Your halberd will sort out whether those cabbages are the only thing in the farmer’s cart. A plague mask can help you spot the ill. And maybe a sprinkling of holy water on the mysterious coffin is good practice, even if the grieving widow promises there’s nothing wrong with it.
