In anger and disbelief, the king placed the Goddess idols and ornaments in a wooden box and set it afloat in a river. That sacred box drifted into the Bay of Bengal and finally reached the shores near Vatsavalasa, close to Srikakulam. Local fishermen discovered the box and heard a divine voice asking them to take her home and worship her. From that day, the Goddess stayed with a humble fishing family, blessing devotees for generations.
