Get your own Harvest Right: https://affiliates.harvestright.com/3239.html We grew it, harvested it, and stored it—but now some of our food is starting to spoil. Today, we take an honest look at our utility-room food storage: what held up, what didn’t, and what we can still save. The butternut squash has been a standout, most of the garlic is still good, and the onions need attention now. Instead of letting more of our harvest slip away, we sort through the shelves, clear out the spoiled produce, and start preparing the good garlic and onions for freezing and freeze-drying. It’s a bigger project than expected—and peeling all that garlic comes with a painful surprise. Along the way, we turn some of the remaining harvest into family meals, pick the last tomatoes, clean up the storage room, and work toward keeping our homegrown food useful until the next harvest. 00:00 How did our utility-room food storage hold up? 00:34 Sorting the garlic after replanting our best bulbs 02:14 Which crops stored best? 04:34 Starting the storage-room cleanup 05:16 Turning the harvest into supper 06:13 Picking the last tomatoes with Rebecca 07:53 Trying a new chicken dinner 08:25 Day two: Finishing the utility-room cleanup 09:19 Breaking apart garlic for preservation 10:05 A painful surprise: Garlic burns my fingers 11:32 Preparing trays for the freezer 12:13 A farm-grown stir-fry dinner 12:43 Day three: Gloves on, back to work 13:32 Keeping the preservation projects moving Growing food is only part of the work. Keeping it, using it, and learning from what goes wrong matters just as much. This wasn’t a perfect storage season, but we’re saving what we can—and figuring out how to do better next time. #FoodPreservation #Homesteading #FreezeDrying #HarvestRight #Garlic #Onions #WinterSquash #FoodStorage #GrowYourOwnFood #FarmToTable #HomesteadLife #PreservingTheHarvest
