What's your favorite airline and why? Let us know in the comments below. After two decades of continuous growth across the board, the airline industry was struck hard by the advent of the coronavirus pandemic and saw enormous losses in revenue. Former market leaders like Delta, United and Emirates lost up to $30 billion in 2020, while two airlines, in particular, seem to have weathered the storm well all things considered. Those two airlines are Singapore Airlines and Qantas Airways, whose revenue decreased by $700 million and $2.6 billion in 2020, respectively. The pandemic also stopped the race of Emirates Group towards the airline with the highest revenue overall. The group comprised of Emirates Airlines and dnata is headquartered in Dubai and saw exceptional growth over the last two decades, with revenues increasing from $3.6 billion in 2002 to $38.2 billion in 2019. When it comes to fleet sizes, the global ranking is dominated by airlines based in the U.S. and China, with American Airlines, United, Delta and Southwest Airlines having 881, 834, 781 and 734 airplanes in their fleets, respectively, in 2021. The rest of the top 10 is comprised of three Chinese airlines, Alaska Airlines and easyJet, which sport fleet sizes between 323 and 626. Looking at the most valuable airlines in 2021 by brand value according to Brand Finance paints a similar picture. Delta, American Airlines and United make up the top 3 with $5.8 billion, $5.3 billion and $5 billion, respectively.
