In today's video, we'll be discussing the 2009 Star Wars road trip comedy "Fanboys" and it's battle against Harvey Weinstein. The first script for "Fanboys" was written by Ernest Cline (Ready Player One, Armada) in 1997. The film focuses on four friends who are journeying to skywalker ranch to steal a print of "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace", so that they can watch it before their friend passes away from cancer. The film was re-written by Dan Pulick and Adam F. Goldberg (The Goldbergs), and eventually picked up by Trigger Street (Kevin Spacey). The Weinstein Company distributed the film, which led to issues that prevented the movie from being released. Harvey Weinstein forced reshoots with two different directors (scott mosier and steven brill). The cancer subplot of the movie was nearly removed, but after fan backlash it was left in the movie. Harvey Weinstein buried and sabotaged the film by giving it a limited release, and almost no advertising of any kind.
