China vs India | Highlights | AVC Men's Continental Championship 2026. China defeated India 3–0 in the preliminary phase of the 2026 AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship, but the final score did not fully reflect how competitive this match was. India pushed China hard, particularly in the second and third sets, and came extremely close to extending the contest. The match was played on September 5, 2026, at the Kitakyushu City General Gymnasium in Fukuoka, Japan. It was Match No. 5 of the tournament and the opening Pool B fixture for both national teams. China won the match 3–0 with set scores of 25–21, 28–26 and 27–25. China established control during the opening set and earned a 25–21 victory. India remained competitive throughout the set, but China were more consistent and composed in the decisive moments. The second set was much more dramatic. India stayed level with China and pushed the set beyond the standard 25-point mark. Both teams had opportunities to take control, but China handled the pressure better and eventually secured the set 28–26. India refused to surrender in the third set. The Indian players once again matched China deep into the closing stages and forced another extended finish. However, China showed greater composure in the most important rallies, winning the set 27–25 and completing the straight-set victory. Despite finishing in only three sets, the match lasted more than an hour and a half. Two sets went into extra points, demonstrating how closely contested the encounter was. Chinese outside hitter Wang Bin was one of the outstanding players of the match, finishing with 16 points. India’s Chirag Yadav produced an equally impressive performance and also scored 16 points, meaning the two outside hitters shared the match-high scoring honors. China’s Zhang Jingyin contributed 12 points, including two successful kill blocks. His attacking and blocking contributions gave China another reliable option during the tense second and third sets. India were led by Chirag Yadav’s excellent 16-point performance, while opposite and team captain Jerome Vinith Charles added 10 points, including two service aces. India’s serving pressure and ability to compete during long rallies were among the most encouraging aspects of their performance. China scored 80 total points across the three sets, while India finished with 72. The difference was only eight points despite the 3–0 result, showing just how close the match was. The victory gave China three points in the Pool B standings and a perfect 3–0 set record after their opening match. India received no standings points, but their performance—especially in the 28–26 second set and the 27–25 third set—showed that they were capable of seriously challenging one of Asia’s strongest volleyball teams. Pool B also included Iran and New Zealand. Iran opened the tournament with a 3–0 victory over New Zealand, winning 25–15, 25–12 and 25–22. India’s next scheduled match was against Iran on September 6, while China were set to face New Zealand on September 7. The 2026 AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship was not only a battle for the Asian title. The tournament also carried major international importance as a qualification event for the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. China deserved the victory because they were more effective in the decisive moments, but India made them fight for almost every point. The 3–0 result looked comfortable on paper, yet the second and third sets were decided by the smallest possible margins. Wang Bin and Chirag Yadav shared the individual scoring spotlight, while China’s experience and late-set composure ultimately made the difference.
