This circuit is designed to turn the LED lights ON automatically when the USB power supply fails and turn them OFF when USB power returns. It uses two 1W COB LEDs—Warm White (3000K) and Cool White (6000K)—to produce a mixed-light effect. The circuit uses transistor switching instead of a relay, making it a compact and affordable electronics project for DIY enthusiasts. ✨ Features - Automatic light switching during power failure - Automatic LED OFF when USB power returns - Dual-tone lighting: Warm White + Cool White - 3.7V 18650 lithium-ion battery operation - TP4056 charging module - BC547 and BC337 transistor-based switching - No mechanical relay required - DIY electronics project for learning transistor switching 🛠️ Components Required 1. TP4056 lithium-ion battery charging module with battery protection – 1 2. 18650 lithium-ion battery, 3.7V, 2200mAh – 1 3. BC547 NPN transistor – 1 4. BC337 NPN power transistor or a compatible alternative – 1 5. 100kΩ resistor – 1 6. 1kΩ resistor – 1 7. 10Ω, ¼W resistors – 8 8. 1W Warm White COB LED, approximately 3V – 1 9. 1W Cool White COB LED, approximately 3V – 1 10. USB 5V power source and connecting wires ⚙️ How Does the Circuit Work? 1. When USB power is available The circuit senses the presence of USB power. The transistor control stage is intended to keep the LEDs OFF while the battery charges through the TP4056 module. 2. When USB power fails The transistor switching stage changes state and switches the emergency LEDs ON, allowing the battery to power the lights. 3. When USB power returns The circuit switches the LEDs OFF again, and battery charging resumes. The exact switching behavior depends on the transistor connections and the final tested circuit. 💡 LED Resistor Arrangement In this project, multiple 10Ω resistors are used in parallel to create lower-resistance combinations. - Two 10Ω resistors in parallel = 5Ω, with a combined nominal power rating of 0.5W. - Four 10Ω resistors in parallel = 2.5Ω, with a combined nominal power rating of 1W. These are resistor calculations, not a guarantee of safe LED current. The correct resistance must be determined from the actual supply voltage, LED forward voltage, and required current. A suitable constant-current LED driver is preferable for reliable operation. 🔌 Important Safety Notes - Use a TP4056 module compatible with your battery and charging requirements. - Verify the actual pinout of the BC547 and BC337 before connecting them. - A TP4056 is a single-cell lithium-ion charger, not a constant-current driver for COB LEDs. - A nominal 3V COB LED must not be connected directly to a fully charged 18650 battery without appropriate current control. - Check the LED current, transistor temperature, resistor power dissipation, and battery protection before prolonged operation. - Never leave a homemade lithium-ion charging circuit unattended during testing.
