"Wednesday, 13 July The riders will contest the 11th stage of the Tour from Albertville to the Col du Granon. The route, which also goes over the Lacets de Montverrier, the Télégraphe and the Galibier, is 151.7 kilometres long. The starting town of Albertville has often been associated with the Tour de France in recent years. In the last seven editions, only in 2017 and 2020 has the Tour not started in the small town in the foothills of the Alps. Usually, it then heads for the mountains and that is the case again this year. The finish line is drawn at the Col du Granon. The yellow caravan has already arrived once on the mountain in the Serre Chevalier ski area. Back then, 36 years ago, Eduardo Chozas took the stage win, while Greg Lemond took over the yellow jersey from Bernard Hinualt and kept it until Paris. After a flat start, the first climb is coming up after 46 kilometres. The Lacets de Montvernier are short but tough: 3.4 kilometres with 8.2%. This is a small mistake, because then it takes about 25 kilometres until the Col du Télégraphe begins. The Télégraphe is inseparable from the Galibier and together they are 35 kilometres long. However, if you look at them separately, the former stands for 11.9 kilometres at 7.1% and the Galibier, after a short descent, for another 17.7 kilometres at 6.9%. It is noteworthy that the riders will be riding exactly the same roads on stage 12, only in the opposite direction. There are still 45 kilometres to go on the Galibier. These start with a long descent, then up the Col du Granon. This is a fairly steady task, but one of the more difficult kind. For 11.3 kilometres, the gradient never drops below 8% and is regularly in double figures. The average is 9.2 %."
