Metro Manila has about 80,000 condos nobody has bought. And the Philippines is still short millions of homes. That sounds like a joke. It isn't. Here is the part that changed how I read the number. Most of those 80,000 are not even finished. Only a little over 30,000 are ready to move into. The rest are still being built. So a lot of buyers are paying monthly for years before they get the keys. Then the bill jumps. One expert's example: a payment of ₱11,000 to ₱12,000 a month can balloon to ₱50,000 at turnover. Some buyers back out. Offshore gaming firms were part of it. Many investors near Manila Bay bought condos to rent to their workers. Then the firms were banned, and the renters left. On September 24, the government floated a plan: cheaper Pag-IBIG loans for condos priced at ₱3 million or less. Some developers said they are willing to cut prices. The rules are not out yet. The towers are standing. The question is whether the price comes down to the families who need them. A condo only becomes a home when someone can afford the key.
