Hidimba: The Mother Who Didn't Cry । Indraprastha In the Hindu epic Mahabharata, there is a mother whose story is different from what you might expect. She did not cry when her son died. Instead, what she did after her son's death may make you think deeply. Hidimba was a powerful demoness who lived in the forest. One day, the Pandavas arrived in the same forest during their exile. At that time, four of the Pandava brothers were sleeping, but Bhima was awake to protect his brothers. When Hidimba saw the five Pandavas, she thought about making them her food. But when she saw Bhima, she was impressed by his strength and powerful body. Later, Bhima and Hidimba got married. They had a son named Ghatotkacha. A few months later, Bhima left the forest with his brothers, and Hidimba raised her son Ghatotkacha on her own. Ghatotkacha was very powerful, just like his father Bhima. Since his mother was a demoness, he also possessed many magical powers. As he grew up, Ghatotkacha became a powerful warrior. He lived away from his father Bhima, but whenever Bhima or the Pandavas needed him, he would come to help them. Then the great war of the Mahabharata began. Ghatotkacha fought in the war on the side of his father Bhima and the Pandavas. Using his magical powers, he caused great damage to the Kaurava army. Then the great warrior Karna, fighting for the Kauravas, faced Ghatotkacha. Karna used a special divine weapon to kill Ghatotkacha. But even at the moment of his death, Ghatotkacha helped his father and the Pandavas. It is said that he used his magical powers to make his body extremely large and fell over the Kaurava army. This caused heavy losses to their army. So, the father whom Ghatotkacha did not get the chance to spend his entire life with was the same father and his family whom he helped until his final moments. Bhima was deeply saddened by Ghatotkacha's death. But Hidimba did not cry over the death of her son. The son whom she had raised all by herself, she did not shed even a single tear when he died. Instead, Hidimba was proud of her son. She was happy that Ghatotkacha had given his life while serving his father Bhima and fighting in the war on his father's side. Although Hidimba was a demoness, she had taught her son that when the time comes to protect dharma and one's family, one should never step back. That is why Hidimba did not see her son's death only as a tragedy. She accepted it as part of the duty of war and as her son's sacrifice. This is why the story of Hidimba is not just the story of a demoness. It is also the story of a mother who raised her son alone and then lost him in battle while he was protecting his family. Today, the famous Hidimba Devi Temple in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, is also dedicated to her, where she is worshipped. So, what would you like to say about Hidimba and Ghatotkacha?
