The series was first serialized in Weekly Shƍnen Jump from December 2003 to May 2006 and was later adapted into an anime series, a live-action film, and several video games. The series follows the story of a high school student named Light Yagami, who comes into possession of a supernatural notebook that can kill anyone whose name is written in it. Light uses the Death Note to rid the world of evil, but his actions soon attract the attention of a mysterious detective known only as "L."
