But when deputies arrived, his emotional reaction quickly turned confrontational, and investigators began noticing several disturbing details that would eventually lead to his arrest. The incident happened around 2 a.m. in Jones County, when Zachary Schwartz and his 31-year-old wife, Allison, were riding in a UTV along Barron Russell Road. According to investigators, the vehicle struck a tree that had recently fallen across the roadway, hit an embankment, and overturned. Unfortunately, Allison was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene, while Zachary suffered relatively minor injuries. When officers arrived, Zachary was visibly devastated, repeatedly begging them to save his wife and insisting the tree had suddenly fallen in front of them. However, as deputies attempted to investigate, Zachary became increasingly confrontational, arguing with officers and refusing to cooperate with some of their requests.
