Genuineness is one of the most misunderstood behaviors in leadership and workplace culture. Many people confuse genuineness with authenticity, bluntness, or ā€œjust telling it like it is.ā€ But authenticity and genuineness are not the same thing. Authenticity is often connected to self-awareness, values, personal development, and alignment between who a person is and how they lead. Mature authentic leaders may become more thoughtful, more self-aware, and more responsible in how they communicate. But authenticity alone is not enough. A person can also say, ā€œI’m just being authentic,ā€ while others experience the behavior as blunt, careless, dominating, or disrespectful. That is not genuineness. In the TIGERS 6 Principles, genuineness means respectfully sincere, frank, and forthright communication. It is not permission to say whatever you think in whatever way you want to say it. Genuineness requires respect. Without respect, authenticity can become bullying with better branding. Genuineness helps people contribute what they actually see so teams can avoid false agreement, groupthink, poor decisions, and hidden workplace conflict. This matters because no one person sees the whole picture. Leaders, managers, frontline employees, customers, HR, operations, and finance may each see a different part of the situation. Genuineness allows those perspectives to be shared clearly and respectfully so the group can think more critically and make better decisions. Key idea: When people must agree to belong, the group may gain silence, but it loses intelligence. In this video, TIGERS 6 Principles explains what leaders often misunderstand about genuineness, why authenticity is not always enough, and why respectfully sincere, frank, and forthright communication is essential for stronger team culture, leadership communication, and better decision-making. TIGERS 6 Principles Founder Licensing gives consultants, fractional executives, HR leaders, OD professionals, and internal change leaders a ready-to-use behavior-based organizational development system for helping leaders and teams improve the daily behaviors that shape workplace culture.
