Amok! Though not an arcade game, Amok is a home console clone so closely resembling Berzerk - it might put you in a... Frenzy! Stern Electronics released Berzerk into the arcades in 1980, followed up by Frenzy in 1982. UMI released Amok on the Commodore Vic-20 in 1982. And, an incredible homebrew version of Amok was released, in cartridge format, for the Odyssey 2 in 1998. In this video we will cover (3) official versions of Berzerk, to be seen on the Atari 2600, 5200, and (alas) the Vectrex. Amok will be seen on the Commodore Vic-20 and Odyssey 2, while Frenzy will be seen on Colecovision. And, a surprise 7th bonus title has been added last minute! Port accuracy and/or overall quality for each game range from fair to excellent across the judgement spectrum. Sorry... no all-out crucifixions are warranted in this episode. Our mission as always... to unveil the "good, the bad, and the ugly" aspects of these re-programmed home console ports. So pop the popcorn, heat some pizza, break out a glass, and watch the various console versions in play, along with the Chef Steve 'must have' narration and commentary. We have much ground to cover in this episode, but we can't forget to serve up our famous "Chef Hat Reviews" for each version... where further critiques, praise, and all-out crucifixions await! These games are being presented, by default always, in their physical media format... provided I do have that cartridge and its functional. If not, then they will be presented via emulation. For the physical cartridges, our TV of choice once again is the good ole Sony 36" CRT TV with its classic 80s feel, herringbones and all... giving us that real deal circa 1980's feel! Classic authenticity is always a must! In regards to any game featured in this series, this video is not meant to impugn the developers' skills in any way. Quite the opposite, I don't doubt their talents. History has proven that company budget limitations, heavy demands, and ridiculous marketing deadlines have forced certain titles and versions to literally be 'rushed out' to market as cheaply and quickly as possible.
