What Does Home Mean When You’ve Had to Keep Rebuilding It? | A Palestinian Woman’s Journey from Jerusalem to Finding Her Voice What does home mean when you’ve had to rebuild it time and time again? In this keynote, delivered at “Healing, Survival, and Storytelling Among Displaced Women” at Nottingham Business School in collaboration with Newcastle University Business School, I share my personal journey from growing up in Jerusalem to rebuilding my life in the United Kingdom. This talk explores the intersections of displacement, identity, trauma, resilience, and hope. It reflects on what it means to lose a sense of home, to survive coercive control and abuse, and ultimately to rediscover your voice through storytelling. I also discuss how writing my debut novel, Hope: Re-Embroidered, and creating Re-Embroidered Conversations became part of my own healing journey, and why I believe stories have the power to build understanding across cultures, communities, and experiences. This is not only a story about Palestine. It is a story about identity. About survival. About healing. And about the universal human search for belonging. If this talk resonates with you, please consider liking, commenting, and subscribing to support more conversations around literature, mental health, displacement, and human rights.
