Written, directed, and edited by Magdalena Grammenopoulos Lena, a young, anxiety-riddled university student, fights a daily battle with anxiety and unexpected panic attacks. Recently, I had the chance to write, direct, and edit my very first short film. Lena’s story is primarily inspired by my own life, and my own personal experiences with anxiety for the better part of the past 10 years. As it is something I deal with on a daily basis, I felt that it could be intriguing to pair my emotions with my art, and create something that not only reflects some of my own experiences, but the experiences of many others as well. I really allowed myself to get as creative and ambitious as possible, and am so proud of the final product. My piece received "Best Film" and "Best Sound Editing" at the GARA Awards, issued by Dr. Gary Gould at Toronto Metropolitan University. If you are someone who struggles, just remember you are not your anxiety. You are not your thoughts, and nor do either of those things define you. It is exhausting and it is painful, and I know it’s easier said than done, but there are always better days ahead. Some days might be harder than others and that is okay. You will be okay. And to my amazing cast & crew, thank you for helping me bring my vision to life in the most amazing way possible. “Sometimes we find ourselves struggling, trying to get out of the dark. During these times it’s hard to believe things will get better. But there is always hope. The sun will shine again.”
