Nano the Wizard soliloquy - Dr Ghon joins him at the end. Our first episode of the Skeleton band in their natural habitat. More to come! For more on this band, check this out: Songwriter X and the Skeleton Band (Los Angeles, CA) Xavier Calvera is the best songwriter you’ve never heard. He is Songwriter X. Born in Cuba and raised on good old American rock ‘n’ roll X writes songs in many genres from pop, folk, and theater tunes to hard rock, jazz, and salsa. Since 2000 when Xavi (say HA-vee) Calvera established Lord Tiger Recording Studio in Uptown Whittier, his backing band has undergone many incarnations occasionally featuring well-known studio musicians. The Skeleton Band was a happy accident. In October 2012, Xavi wrote the song “Only 4 Love” and, with Halloween approaching, had a unique vision of the video – music played by skeletons. His wife, former LA radio personality Susan McRoberts, joined in the fun, writing skits, making costumes and playing white-haired, white-dressed Blanca. The lead character’s name, Papa Calavera, was a natural, since calavera means skull in Spanish. Papa is a loveable oaf, absent-minded, but kind-hearted. Bonehead, the goofy, unpredictable drummer, named himself and - believe it or not - he is not playing a role! He is like that every day. Al Rocker wearing glasses looks so much like NBC weatherman Al Roker that he bastardized the Today Show star’s name. Bass player Fredo is portrayed by an actual studio musician: Dennis Trerotola who appears sans mask in the infectious “Dance on Water.” LA-area musician John Gulack plays keyboards for the Skeleton Band. “I’m in a Well,” catches the viewer immediately, when Blanca playfully pushes Papa who falls backward into a deep, black hole. One must watch the entire video to see what happens. Songwriter X was busy in 2015, composing, recording and shooting a different video every two weeks, posting them on his YouTube site. “Mary Jo,” “Red” and “Dead or Alive” are autumn originals with earworm catch phrases and pounding, danceable beats. Xavier Calvera has released seven CDs packed with original music. 1998’s “Dragon Master” is a bright collection of pop and folk tunes. “For All Times,” recorded in 2001 with Roy Tooth, was the fulfillment of a dream each singer had had since childhood. There is a special magic in the harmony of their voices. “The Lord Tiger Sessions” from 2003 is an eclectic mix of hard rock and soft ballads. At the time, the band was known as “Xavi and the Tiger.” Susan dressed as a tiger, complete with tail! This group performed before audiences from Pasadena to Santa Monica. In 2004, Xavier Calvera unleashed his jazzy alter ego and created a 13-song album titled “Elrod Geare, One Dark Dude.” Story songs like “Painting My Afternoons” or “Clouds and Skies” alternate with fast-paced, driving pieces like “Aimless Love” and hauntingly soft tunes such as “I’m Surrounded” and “More Than Forever.” A mini-CD of original Christmas tunes became available in 2005. “Tropical Christmas” has hit potential. “Pa’ Mi Cuba Me Voy” (To my Cuba, I go) is Xavi’s musical expression of how it felt to leave his home, taking nothing, to move to a foreign country with an unknown language and culture. He was in high school when he landed in the U.S and did not speak a word of English, but still managed to pass algebra class that year! These eleven songs, all with captivating Cuban rhythms celebrate the outdoor musicians, the street vendors, birds, trees and tropical oceans of the island. In Germany, increasing plays of the title song prove a growing popularity. A disc called “Lovesongs: One for each month of the year” followed in 2010. Calvera has written songs for various vocalists including Frances Tease and LN Powers. The WannaBeatles adopted his “I Wanna Be a Beatle” as their concert theme song. The Magallen/Gulack duo, who perform throughout the Los Angeles area, are making a splash with Songwriter X’s original tune “Roll the Bones.” -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Sweet Baby Jesus - For Paris 2015" ➨ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cx7OZLKOQi8 -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-
