Roughly an hour later, officers located the stolen vehicle through an automated license plate alert and followed it to Mahogany Drive, a dead-end street in north Vallejo. As an officer attempted to stop the car and give commands to its occupants, police say the driver, identified as 44-year-old Rommel Delfin Querol, immediately grabbed a .223-caliber AR-15-style rifle and opened fire, forcing the officer to take cover and return fire as backup units rushed to the scene. Authorities said the exchange of gunfire continued after a second officer arrived, with the stolen Honda rolling forward and crashing into a parked vehicle and a fence before coming to a stop.
