"Tomorrow" ~ There's only so many times you can repeat yourself before feeling truly frustrated, and this was just another example. It's not fun to go through something you've lost all motive for. But unfortunately--or maybe you could say fortunately--I'm too stubborn for my own good. In September, I was offered an only decently difficult verification. Something I could breeze through for fun. Six months later, and I've beaten my new hardest demon for the first time in years. Um, oops? I really didn't mean for it to turn out this way. But that isn't to say I regret it. Honestly, I don't think it could have gone better. Sure, I was frustrated. But I wasn't going to let bad luck weigh the level down. It didn't matter if I died in the final quarter 22 times, because I knew this project was bigger than me. And I think that's what this is all about. Nothing upsets me more in today's community than the current trend for top extreme demons. The amount of people who gladly superbuff one part around their muscle memory, add a bunch of fixed hitboxes or frame perfects, then call it a day for difficulty balancing is so upsetting to me. It upsets me more knowing that I partly contributed to that trend, and didn't have a choice in the matter. So when I got an opportunity to verify something that I could mould into whatever I wanted, I knew exactly what it was I wanted to do. A lot of inspiration for this came from Tartarus and Hard Machine. not because I think they're good, but because I believe they're so horrible that I wanted to spite them. They're exactly the kind of levels that I like, done in what I think is the worst way possible. So, pretty much, I buffed and balanced this to be an alternative to these two. I might have made it a bit too hard though, oops. I honestly think it's twice the difficulty. Hard Machine took me 3 months and 43k attempts, but this took 6 months and 97k attempts. It's not close in the slightest, and it took over double the effort to get this level out. I definitely think a mindblock contributed to such a large attempt count, but the amount of gamemode control you need to play this level is so much higher that I still believe so. Gameplay in parts like the red ship, the sky cube, and the swingcopter require such knowledge of how the game's physics work to do efficiently that it blows them out of the water. I have no idea how hard this really is, because I have barely tried anything at the top out of a lack of interest. But it's definitely a jump in difficulty. That jump is pretty much the only reason I couldn't enjoy the level that much. It was so fun, but it took six months. I honestly think that I even improved the level by a ton when making it harder, so if I were better, it would be even more fun. People love to think that top demons can never be fun thanks to the fact that they're simply "too hard", and whilst for me that might be true, that doesn't mean you have to neglect the potential of a level by embracing forced difficulty. The skill level is rising all the time, there will come a day where people will easily beat these levels like the top levels of yesteryear too. I hope more than anything that I did a good job balancing the level, so I can make my point. To quickly talk about the level itself, I think it's really decent. It's not a crazy good masterpiece built to satisfy with the most engaging click patterns of all time, but for the style of gameplay that it was going for, I think it did great. I found the first half to be a bit boring, so I tried to balance it to be slightly second half heavy to compensate. I still had many days where I would get stuck in the first half though, so it remains satisfying. It's also a unique skillset, and probably the most skill based top 10 now, thanks to being easy to pick up and play and not relying on muscle memory parts to stay difficult. So for people looking for a skill boost, I would highly recommend it.
