Rome was not built in a day, and this video is proof of that. In this episode, your window reveals a timelapse of one of the most dramatic urban evolutions in human history. For over two millennia, Rome was shaped by political revolutions, wars, plagues, the rise and fall of empires, and a continuous cycle of destruction and renewal. Among its most dramatic chapters is the era of the Domus Aurea. After the Great Fire of Rome in 64 AD, Emperor Nero seized vast areas across the Palatine, Esquiline, and Caelian hills to build his sprawling Golden House, complete with an enormous artificial lake at its heart. Just a few years later, that same lake would be drained and filled to lay the foundations of the Colosseum. Over time, the valley around the Colosseum fell into ruin and silence. During the Middle Ages, the Roman Forum, once the center of the ancient world, became little more than an open field known for centuries as āCampo Vaccinoā, a grazing ground for cattle. This video is divided into three acts. Act I - Origins, Monarchy and Republic. Act II - Imperial Rome and the Fall. Act III - Abandonment and Reurbanization. The viewpoint throughout the video is set in a fictional street inspired by "Via del Colosseo", one of the streets that runs directly toward the Colosseum. Please note: This is an artistic interpretation of how Rome may have changed over time. I have done my best to make the reconstruction as historically accurate as possible. However, because this project covers an extremely long period of history and a major urban transformation, some mistakes, simplifications, and inaccuracies are inevitable. Iāve also created a fictional members-only video showcasing the cityās future years. How itās made: Location inspiration in Rome: 41.891584, 12.490827 ā Researched the most visually significant moments in Romeās history (see āSources & Researchā below) ā Designed the storyboard, historical progression, and pacing of the location through time ā Generated and refined the street model with AI tools, always from the exact same perspective ā Populated each scene with people, animals, and traffic using AI ā Animated each frame, then edited, composited, and refined details in post-production ā Added sound design and music to match the mood of each era šTimestamps: 00:00 - Origins And Monarchy 01:34 - Roman Republic 05:35 - Imperial Rome 09:39 - Late Empire And Fall 11:24 - Middle Ages And Abandonment 13:40 - Renaissance "Campo Vaccino" 14:33 - Baroque Period 15:54 - 19th Century And Risorgimento 17:13 - 20th Century 20:35 - 21th Century šSources & Research: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domus_Aurea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmMmuonCXbI https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Rome https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campo_Vaccino https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Forum šµ Music credits: - 'Cirrus' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au - 'The Old Ones' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au - 'Ignis' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au - 'The Old Ones' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au - 'Aphelion' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au - 'Victor Lux' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au - 'March of Midnight' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au - HANS JUDENKUNIG - Paduana alla Venetiana by David HernĆ”ndez Romero - Released under CC-BY 4.0 - Marco Uccellini Aria Sopra la Bergamasca by Gerardo Meza - Released under CC-BY 4.0 - Track: Va Pensiero, Music by https://www.fiftysounds.com - David Hermlin And His Swing Dance Orchestra
