ईमानदार लकड़हारा | The Honest Woodcutter | Hindi Moral Stories for Kids ‘ईमानदार लकड़हारा’ एक लकड़हारा नदी के किनारे लकड़ी काट रहा था। लकड़ी काटते-काटते अचानक उसकी कुल्हाड़ी नदी में गिर गयी। इसके कारण वह परेशान हो गया और ज़ोर-ज़ोर से रोने लगा- “अरे, ये क्या हो गया! अब मैं क्या करूँ? पैसे कहाँ से लाऊँगा?” तभी नदी में से पानी के देवता वरुण-देव प्रकट हुए और बोले- “क्या हुआ? तुम क्यों रो रहे हो?” लकड़हारे ने रोते रोते पूरी बात बताई और कहा- “मैं लकड़ी काटकर अपने परिवार का पेट भरता था, अब कुल्हाड़ी के बिना मैं क्या करूंगा?” वरुण-देव बोले- “तुम चिंता न करो, मैं अभी तुम्हारी कुल्हाड़ी लाकर देता हूँ।“ यह कहकर वरुण देव ने पानी में डुबकी लगाई और एक कुल्हाड़ी ले आए। “यह लो तुम्हारी कुल्हाड़ी“ उन्होने लकड़हारे से कहा। लकड़हारे ने देखा कि कुल्हाड़ी तो सोने की है। वह बोला- “देव, यह कुल्हाड़ी मेरी नहीं है।“ वरुण देव ने फ़िर से डुबकी लगाई और दूसरी कुल्हाड़ी ले आए और बोले- “अब यह लो भाई, यही है न तुम्हारी कुल्हाड़ी?” लकड़हारे ने देखा कि इस बार कुल्हाड़ी चांदी की थी। उसने कहा- “नहीं-नहीं, यह तो चांदी की कुल्हाड़ी है, यह मेरी नहीं है। मेरी कुल्हाड़ी तो लोहे की थी। अब आप परेशान न हों।“ वरुण देव ने फ़िर से डुबकी लगाई और फ़िर से एक और कुल्हाड़ी ले आए। इस बार कुल्हाड़ी लोहे की थी। उसे देखकर लकड़हारा बहुत ख़ुश हो गया और चहक कर बोला- “हाँ-हाँ यही है मेरी कुल्हाड़ी! हे देव, आपका बहुत-बहुत धन्यवाद। अब मैं लकड़ी काटकर बेच सकूँगा और अपने परिवार का पेट भर सकूँगा।“ यह कहकर लकड़हारा जाने लगा। तभी वरुण देव ने उसे बुलाकर कहा- “तुम बहुत ईमानदार हो। मैं तुमसे बहुत प्रसन्न हूँ। यह लो, तुम अपनी कुल्हाड़ी के साथ-साथ सोने और चांदी कि कुल्हाड़ियाँ भी ले जाओ। ये मेरी तरफ़ से भेंट हैं।“ और इस तरह लकड़हारा तीनों कुल्हाड़ियाँ लेकर खुशी-खुशी घर चला गया। शाम को यह बात उसने अपने दोस्तों को भी बताई । दोस्तों को अचरज हुआ पर खुशी भी हुई । उनमें से एक बड़ा ही लालची था । अगले ही दिन उसने अपनी कुल्हाड़ी उठाई और ठीक उसी जगह जा पहुँचा जहाँ ईमानदार लकड़हारे की कुल्हाड़ी गिरी थी । वह पेड़ पर चढ़ कर लकड़ी काटने लगा और जानबूझ कर कुल्हाड़ी को नदी में गिरा दिया । फिर पेड़ के नीचे बैठकर ज़ोर ज़ोर से रोने व चिल्लाने लगा, ‘हाय-हाय अब मेरा क्या होगा। एक ही कुल्हाड़ी थी मेरे पास, वह भी गिर गई पानी में।’ उसका विलाप सुन कर वरुण देव प्रकट हुए| उनके हाथ में सोने की एक कुल्हाड़ी थी। वे बोले, ‘देखो, यही है न तुम्हारी कुल्हाड़ी?’ लकड़हारा तुरंत ही खुश होकर कहने लगा, ‘हाँ हाँ प्रभु यही है मेरी कुल्हाड़ी!’ कुल्हाड़ी लेने के लिए जैसे ही वह आगे बड़ा तभी वरुण देव नदी के बीच में चले गए और बोले, ‘रुको वहीं ठहर जाओ! तुम तो बड़े ही बेईमान निकले। अब तो तुम्हें कुछ भी नहीं मिलेगा|’ ऐसा कहकर वरुण देव पानी में अंदर चले गए। बेईमान लकड़हारे को खाली हाथ घर लौटना पड़ा। लालच में आकर उसने अपनी कुल्हाड़ी भी गवा दी। खुशियाँ मिलती हैं उसको, जो ईमानदारी से बढ़ा है| इसी लिए तो कहते हैं, लालच बुरी बाला है| Once, there lived a woodcutter in a village.
