In August, 2020, Songs and Everlasting Joy was born. I had been feeling an urgency to create a YouTube channel where I could upload peaceful and inspirational hymns and songs to encourage believers until we could have "songs and everlasting joy" in heaven one day. So, a song was quickly strung together - Nearer, My God, To Thee. I decided to do it a cappella, which I do honestly regret to this day. I may do another version with accompaniment one day, as it's one of my favourite hymns. But, humble as it was, it was the beginning of a journey for me personally, of giving all the glory to God and lifting Him up. This was something I had struggled with when singing in church growing up. If someone complimented a special item, I'd say, "Thank you." And, my head would start to grow. But, that's not what it was meant to be. The response should always have been, "Praise God!" Because, it isn't about me, or anyone else. Sacred music is about giving glory to our wonderful God. Psalm 115:1 says, "Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake." Some of you have asked who I am and what my name is. Some have even been quite upset that I would not tell them. But, I have chosen not to reveal it because of this personal struggle with taking the glory for myself. Having this channel be anonymous takes away a big part of the temptation to give the glory to myself. So, please enjoy "Lift Him Up" that has been recorded as a celebration of 30,000 subscribers, which just clocked over as I was editing this video. As I have mentioned before, it doesn't matter how many subscribers I have - I have not monetised this channel and have no intention to. But, it is exciting and humbling to know that so many people are enjoying the music from Songs and Everlasting Joy. This hymn was a request from a lovely subscriber not long ago.
