Sometimes, the hardest part of creating is getting out of your own way. I wrote Prayer at a time when I was feeling stuck as an artist. No matter what I made, it never quite felt good enough. Even when the people around me thought otherwise, I kept finding things to fix, things to improve, things that could be better. Somewhere along the way, I had become so consumed by perfecting my work that I started questioning whether I’d forgotten how to create altogether. Or perhaps, more importantly, forgotten how it was supposed to feel. Prayer is a call out to the universe. A question I didn’t quite know how to answer myself. Perhaps there was never a perfect answer to find. Perhaps I was simply looking too hard. Rick Rubin once said, “The goal is to make something that feels good to you.” It’s a reminder that sometimes we get so caught up in judging what we create that we forget to actually create. That doing something, anything, is better than being paralysed by the pursuit of perfection. For the music video, we wanted to build a world that felt as mystical and haunting as the song itself. The dancers became an expression of the emotions I was carrying while writing it — the questions, the restlessness, the surrender, and eventually, the release. A big thank you to Rinchen Angmo and Art of Motion for bringing these emotions to life through movement, and to Saldon 2112, a Ladakhi designer whose work we’ve admired for a long time, for collaborating with us on the visual world of this film. Perhaps the reminder is a simple one: stop thinking so much. Make something. Put it out into the world. And find your way back to the feeling that made you start in the first place.
