I am going to continue on with the series called the BUNCH. Part 2 of this series I will be covering the unique contributions by Control Data Corporation, as well as some of the challenges they faced while trying to compete in this marketplace with a dominate player (IBM). Many of the companies during this time would stand up corporations which I assume would help keep the financials profit and loss from negatively impacting the parent organization. There is a long chain of companies which lead to the creation of CDC, and that is a video all in itself of how they would gobble up one another to gain entry into unfamiliar markets or obtain technology which was protected by patent. In this video Remington-Rand wanted to join the manufactures of computer equipment so they bought companies that were already well established and had the in-house expertise to help make them successful. Remington-Rand was in turn bought out by Sperry-Univac. From which 4 engineers left to form their own company CDC. Many of the early history of computer companies ran into this problem of unwillingness for one organization to branch out into new fields.
