Tesla's own public parts catalogue prices a long range battery at $8,000 — not $20,000. Tesla ranks third among all brands for reaching 250,000 miles, and fewer than one percent of packs get replaced. The battery is mostly fine. It's everything built around it that strands people. This video starts with the fear, then follows what actually goes wrong. An owner whose battery showed advanced degradation at low mileage — a $22,000 bill, covered under warranty, on a replacement pack that's already climbing again. A Tesla technician explaining that the part which leaves you stuck isn't the big battery at all: it's the 12 volt, which runs the computers and the door handles, and gives no warning before it goes. A brand new VW ID4 that kept going dark overnight for the same reason, sat at the dealership four weeks waiting on a part, and had to be bought back under California lemon law.
