This is a music video that I did in college, back in the early eighties, to a Pete Townshend penned Who song from that era that should have become a classic, but that, for whatever reason, quickly faded to near obscurity. This is also the New York that wasn't on the tourist maps, from the days when the Bowery meant more than a trendy upscale bar, and Flash wasn't just an obsolete animation program. The intro and extro, featuring a more seasoned but not necessarily wiser flasher and the voices of the park pervert and your humble story teller, were added twenty five odd years later. Sadly, my Uncle Flash, Arthur Garber, my cousin, Phillip or PS Garber, the magazine thief and self gratifier, my lifelong close friend, Thomas J. Trombino, the phone breather, and Googles, my most distinguished and noteworthy cameo, are no longer with us. The girl in the shower, Sandra Aronowitz (now Garron) and I are still close friends, and her bathing companion was doing fine, at last check. I'm assuming that many of the genuine street people from over forty years ago, have also moved on to better incarnations. Being a part of this video was truly a highlight in the often sad but uniquely inspired short life of my cousin, PS or Phillip Garber. He incorporated it into his father's memorial and he spoke to me about it, on his deathbed. You've left a greater legacy than this Phillip but I forever dedicate my interpretation of How Can You Do it Alone, to you. Eric Zaccar
