Monday morning. You step on your bathroom scale and the number starts going up, and it never stops. You feel fine. Everything you stand on doesn't. The scale gives up, the floor bends and drops you into the kitchen, and out in your street the pavement sinks under your feet. You go down past the gas pipe, the water main and a shark's tooth in the clay, fall into a tube tunnel just before a train, and keep going: through chalk, granite and the hot rock where diamonds are made, into an ocean of liquid iron, all the way to the very centre of the Earth. And you are still getting heavier. What is real: every weight and every depth on screen. A big sumo wrestler weighs about 190 kg, a car about 1.5 tonnes, an elephant up to 7 tonnes, the biggest blue whale 190 tonnes, a jumbo jet about 400 tonnes, the Eiffel Tower 10,100 tonnes, the Titanic 52,310 tonnes, the Great Pyramid about 6.5 million tonnes. Tube tunnels run about 24 m down; the deepest mine goes past 4 km, the deepest hole ever dug 12.3 km. The crust is about 35 km thick, the mantle goes down to 2,890 km, then comes the liquid iron of the outer core (its currents make the Earth a magnet), and from 5,150 km the solid inner core, as hot as the surface of the Sun. The centre is 6,371 km down. At 147 million tonnes your own pull, a metre from you, is as strong as the Earth's. All the air on Earth weighs about 5 quadrillion tonnes, the oceans 1.4 quintillion, the Moon 73 quintillion, the Earth 5.97 sextillion. Packed into your size, about 590 sextillion tonnes would make you a black hole. What is not real, or made up: nobody can get heavier like this and live. How fast you sink is made up (far faster than anything real could sink through rock). Underground is dark; the light in the film comes from the rock crushed under your feet glowing, which is how it is shown, not something anyone has seen. The rock, the liquid iron and the inner core's crystals are drawn as they might look if you could see them; nobody has. The very end is made up. You stood on a bathroom scale for nine minutes. By the end you weighed more than thirty Earths.
