The Rings of Power is about to return us to Middle in the Earth in the middle of the Second Age of Middle earth. In this video we explain what that means, how this connects to the 6 films, and what to expect in the new Amazon show. And later he was killed, the ring came to gollum, from gollum to Bilbo, etc. But letâs talk about this new series, which has a huge budgetâŠreportedly 60 million per episode, twice that of stranger things season 4. The highly anticipated Amazon series is going to be gigantic and promises to bring the world of Middle Earth to new cinematic levels on the small screen! It reportedly costs almost $60 million per episode, more than double Strangers Thing's budget, so they aren't penny-pinching. The trailers have rightly been pretty vague but Iâm here to give you the inside scoop on everything you need to know before heading to Rings of Power takes place during the Second Age of Middle Earth. Itâs sandwiched in the middle between The Silmarillion, which mostly covers the First Age, and the Hobbit and Lord of The Rings, which takes place in the Third Age. J.R.R Tolkein only briefly touched upon the Second Age in the appendixes found at the end of the Return of the King. However, J.Râs son, Christopher Tolkien would go on to expand his father's unpublished manuscripts about the Second Age in the book âShaping Middle Earth.â If reading is your thing, there is also a new book coming out titled, The Fall of NĂșmenor (spoiler alert) that fans can grab on Nov. 15th edited by Brian Sibley. Which should satiate all you book worms out there. Clip suggestion: "OH isn't this amazing" You think thatâs amazing? The book is also going to be illustrated by Alan Lee, who won an Oscar for his contributions to the art direction of The Lord of the Rings films. Clip suggestion: [Impressive ] What we do know is that The Second Age begins after the final overthrow of Morgoth by the Valar in the War of Wrath. Morgoth, as a Valar, was wayyyy more powerful than the dark lord Sauron, who is a Maia. If you fear this video might be slipping into Colbert territory, - Valar and Maia rant - Donât panic, I couldnât compete with Stephen if I tried. To make it easier, think of Morgoth as Darkseid and Sauron as Steppenwolf. RIP Snyderverse. I have a suspicion that the show will also give us a backstory to the First Age based on the trailer footage. So rest assured Iâm not going to make you Charlie Day the history of the first age, because that would get very confusing. Okay, well we can talk about Melkor and the Ungoliant, who drained the life of the trees, thus creating the sun and moon that then led to the beginning of the first great wars of Middle Earth. THEN in the Second Age, Ar-PharazĂŽn attacks the shores of Aman in an attempt to besiege Tirion upon TĂșna. Good idea. Maybe Galadriel will have a monologue that sums up all of that. [âoh thank godâ ] So, we are talking about the Second Age of Middle earth, which is 3,441 years long. But the Amazon Five season show will condense the timeline, in order to highlight the major plot points. Thatâs what the Rings of Power's narrative will be focused on; the rise of Sauron with the forging of the great rings and his seduction of the powerful human race of NĂșmenor, which inevitably will lead to their downfallâŠ.or sinking if weâre being literal. Yes, you heard it referenced several times before in LOTR when referencing Aragon, most of the time to his face. (Clips). We also know that Ringwraiths come to pass, the early wars between Sauron and the Elves will begin and of course, the One Ring will be made in this time. - "One Ring to rule them all" Galadrielâs monologue tells us as well when the Second Age ends and the third, more familiar one begins. When Isildur takes his father's sword Narsil and cuts the One Ring from Sauron's finger, destroying Sauron's physical formâthe beginning of the Third Age has begun. It's safe to bet we wonât touch this area however unless itâs the last sequence of the show. Also, itâs already been perfectly done by Peter Jackson, and âwhy mess with perfection?â
