Many people are reviewing Cathay's brand-new Aria Suite. I flew a 777-300ER that's still in the old four-class layout — including First Class. And here's the thing: after Cathay done Boeing 777 fleet cabin refurbishment by mid-2027, the First Class will be removed from these aircraft for good. No, I wasn't seated in First — but I was in the best seat to farewell. This is the second episode of my journey to the UK, taking CX259 from Hong Kong to Manchester on the Boeing 777-300ER, in Cathay Pacific's classic long-haul Business Class. And what a year to fly them: Cathay has just been ranked 3rd among the world's best airlines by Skytrax as a five-star airline, and 2026 marks their 80th anniversary. Before this cabin — and the First Class ahead of it — disappears fleet by fleet, this flight is my record of what it was really like. The experience starts on the ground. At Cathay's home base in Hong Kong, I visited The Bridge (é€¸é€£å ‚), one of their self-operated flagship lounges. If Part 1 showed you how Cathay runs its own lounge in Beijing, this is the full home-turf version — from the food counters to the quiet zones, I'll walk you through the entire space before boarding. Onboard, I was seated in 11K — the mini Business cabin tucked right behind First Class, with just two rows. Quiet, private, and arguably the best-kept secret in this four-class layout; once First Class goes, so does this little sanctuary. For the meal, I tried Cathay's collaboration with LOUISE: lamb shoulder confit with spiced jus, bulgur pilaf with dried fruits and fresh herbs. Restaurant-level plating at 35,000 feet — the close-up shots speak for themselves. And then, the unfinished mission as an Aviation enthusiast. If you watched my July trip to Australia, you know Cathay granted me a cockpit visit on the A350 to Brisbane. In Part 1 of this journey, I tried again — but I didn't make it due to the test flight. So this time, I made my request to the crew, fully prepared for another rejection. After a long wait, the answer came back: "Feel free to visit after landing." Stepping into the flight deck of the 777-300ER was the ending this series deserved. Cathay remains one of the most avgeek-friendly airlines out there — though remember, it's never a guaranteed opportunity. So here's the real question this episode answers: with the Aria Suite rolling out and First Class on its way out, is the classic Business Class still worth booking today? My answer might surprise you. I wish I could travel CX's Aria Suite in the future.
