How did the very image that represented awakening and divine power in the earliest Christian teachings become associated with Satan, with the fall of humanity, with everything a believer should fear and flee? The answer, laid out in precise and historically grounded detail in this episode, is one of the most consequential propaganda operations in history. When the Roman Empire adopted Christianity under Constantine in the fourth century, it needed a unified religion capable of serving as social control across vast and diverse territories. The solution was the Council of Nicaea in 325 CE and the councils that followed, where bishops, many of them appointed by the emperor, determined which texts were scripture and which were heresy. These were not neutral scholars seeking truth. They were political operatives consolidating power. The version of Christianity they constructed was a deliberate mirror of the imperial hierarchy. Salvation flowing from God through Christ through the church through the priests to the people. Every human being dependent on external authority for their spiritual well-being. The clergy as gatekeepers of heaven. Now consider what threat the serpent power teaching posed to this system. If every human being has direct access to the divine through an internal biological process, if the Christos rises within you through your own practice and discipline, if you can experience resurrection and unity with God right now, without a priest, then the institutional church serves no purpose at all. The teaching made the system obsolete. So the system had to destroy the teaching. Every text that described the inner serpent power was systematically burned. Communities that practiced these techniques were hunted down and exterminated. The Gnostics, whose name simply meant one who knows, became a slur. The Cathars in medieval France, who emphasized direct spiritual experience and rejected Roman authority, were massacred almost to extinction in the Albigensian Crusade. Even the canonized Christian mystics who clearly described kundalini-like experiences, St Teresa of Avila writing about fire rising up her spine, St John of the Cross describing the dark night of the soul, were tolerated only as individual anomalies, never allowed to teach the actual techniques to the masses. If these teachings were merely false, why the violent response? The violence reveals fear. The church hierarchy feared these teachings because at some level they knew. Neither was malicious. Both were doing exactly what the centuries-long suppression program was designed to produce. People who genuinely believed the inner path was dangerous and that the only safe route to God ran through their specific institution. The programming was so thorough and so old that the people perpetuating it had no idea they were perpetuating a political decision made seventeen hundred years ago to protect an empire. The knowledge never completely died. It went underground, encoded in symbols, in art, in architecture, in mystical movements the church could not fully control. And it keeps surfacing.
