🌟 Size Comparison between the Biggest galaxies discovered by September 2023, IC 1101 (previous leader), Andromeda Galaxy and our Milky Way Galaxy 🌐 A galaxy is a system of stars, stellar remnants, interstellar gas, dust, and dark matter bound together by gravity. Galaxies, averaging an estimated 100 million stars, range in size from dwarfs with less than a hundred million stars, to the largest galaxies known – supergiants with one hundred trillion stars, each orbiting its galaxy's center of mass. It's estimated that there are roughly 200 billion galaxies in the observable universe. Most galaxies are 1,000 to 100,000 parsecs in diameter (approximately 3,000 to 300,000 light years) and are separated by distances on the order of millions of parsecs (or megaparsecs). 🏅📖 Alcyoneus is a low-excitation, Fanaroff–Riley class II radio galaxy located 3.5 billion light-years (1.1 gigaparsecs) away from Earth, corresponding to the galaxy SDSS J081421.68+522410.0. It is located in the constellation Lynx and it was discovered in Low-Frequency Array (LOFAR) data by a team of astronomers led by Martijn Oei. It has the largest extent of any radio galaxy identified, with lobed structures spanning 5 megaparsecs (16 million light-years) across, described by its discoverers as the "largest known structure of galactic origin." For comparison, another similarly sized giant radio galaxy is 3C 236, with lobes 15 million light-years across. đŸŽ¶ Music in the video: fresh - nxvamane『edit audio』 _____________________________________________ Thank you for watching!
