The recent update removed the +2 gold and exp you get if you're not the last in your team. In the new patch, only the player with the least exp or gold benefits from the mask. The solution is pretty simple. All you need to do is wait until your first kill before buying your mask. First kill means either a hero, minion or jungle monster. That's all there is. The problem with buying multiple masks is that their gold and exp will be the same. If it's the same, the bonus from the mask will not take effect. Here is a sample. So we have four players with mask but I want you to focus on Estes and Natalia's gold. Their gold is the same and their experience is not increasing even though they both have mask items. 1 minute in the game and I'm still at level 1. So Natalia finally gets a kill which gave her gold. Now Estes has the lowest gold and because of this, Estes will now benefit from the roam item. That's why you see a plus 20 gold right here. Four seconds later comes another plus 20 gold. And his experience is also increasing now. Here is another example. This example is what I think is happening to most players, especially with the 1-2-2 setup. So we have two heroes with mask. The tank will go with the mid-laner while support goes to help the bottom lane. As you can see their gold is the same which means no one is benefitting from their mask. In this game, Atlas accidentally kills a jungle monster while his carry was far from him. It gave him gold which means his gold is no longer equal to Estes's gold. Now Estes can benefit from the mask bonus. If he didn't accidentally killed that jungle monster, their gold and exp will remain the same leaving them stuck at level 1. This is what's happening with most players now. It could go on like this unless something happens that will change their gold like a hero kill. Here is sample of what you should do.
