Andhra Pradesh is set to make headlines with a new initiative to construct 3D-printed homes for the poor, potentially becoming the first such project of its kind in the country. A pilot project for 3D-printed houses is being prepared at Burripalem near Tenali in Guntur district. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, who has consistently emphasized the use of technology, is scheduled to formally launch the innovative project on October 4. The project is being developed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin 2.0 (PMAY-G), with the special initiative of Union Minister of State Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar. It will be implemented with technical support from the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee. Officials have fixed the construction cost of each 3D concrete-printed house at ₹5.10 lakh. At present, the Centre and state governments together provide ₹2.39 lakh for conventional houses constructed under PMAY. However, additional assistance will be provided for these houses to promote the new technology. The ₹5.10 lakh cost will cover site development, the main structure, stairs, toilet, ramp, shed and other essential facilities. As part of the pilot project, 100 houses will be constructed using 3D printing technology at Burripalem. In addition, another 77 houses with specially designed features for persons with disabilities will be constructed at Obulnaidupalem in the Guntur rural area. The total estimated cost of the project covering both locations is ₹13.93 crore, with ₹9.44 crore contributed by the Central Government and ₹4.49 crore by the State Government. The 3D-printing construction method is set to transform conventional building practices. Specially designed large robotic 3D concrete printers use computer programming to create walls and other structural elements layer by layer directly at the construction site. Since fast-setting concrete mixtures are used, processes such as laying bricks and plastering can be avoided, potentially reducing construction that normally takes months to just a few days or even hours. The technology can significantly reduce material wastage and carbon emissions, making it more environmentally friendly. The houses will be designed according to advanced engineering standards to withstand earthquakes, extreme temperatures and cyclones. If the pilot project proves successful, the Andhra Pradesh government plans to expand the technology to lakhs of houses to be constructed across the state under PMAY, with the aim of helping eligible economically weaker families realize their dream of owning a home on time. #3DPrintedHomes #3DPrinting #AndhraPradesh #APGovt #Chandrababu #PMAY #HousingForPoor #SmartHousing #PemmasaniChandraSekhar #thinkandhra For More Updates Follow Us On : Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/ThinkAndhraOfficial/ Twitter : https://x.com/think_andhra Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/thinkandhra/ WhatsApp : https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaznDVzCHDyg8PmAYe0z
