Recognising the commitment of Ericharla Honey, the sister of an innocent Dalit youth who reportedly lost his life for supporting the party during the YSRCP regime, the TDP-led alliance has selected her as its candidate for the Chirala Municipal Chairperson post, showing its commitment to party workers through action. Unlike the political tradition of prioritising the families of influential leaders, the TDP is continuing a culture of supporting the families of ordinary party workers who have sacrificed everything for the party. During the previous YSRCP government, Honey’s family suffered immensely due to alleged political violence and vendetta in Chirala. Her own brother, Kiran, was brutally murdered for carrying the TDP flag and refusing to bow to alleged threats from the YSRCP. The family was plunged into deep grief after losing a young son with his whole life ahead of him. Despite becoming victims of alleged abuses by those in power, the family did not abandon the yellow flag of the TDP. Instead, they continued their struggle without backing down in the face of injustice. Through this decision, the party leadership has sent a message that the family’s suffering, sacrifice, and struggle have not gone in vain.
