Have you ever stopped to wonder why we examine our conscience in the first place? Why look back? Why consider our thoughts, words, actions, and choices? If our ultimate destination is Heaven, then the direction we're walking matters. πͺπ£ π―οΈβ¨ Welcome back to The Examination, a Catholic video series about looking inward, forming our conscience, and inviting the Lord to show us where He is calling us to grow. In Episode 2, Why Look?, we're asking: Why do we examine our conscience? Examination isn't simply about looking for everything we've done wrong. It's an opportunity to recognize what draws us closer to God, what pulls us away, and whether our lives are moving in the direction of the One we're trying to follow. π We turn to St. Peter, who loved Jesus and believed he would remain faithful to Himβeven saying he was ready to go to prison and die for Him. But when Jesus was arrested, Peter denied knowing Him three times. The moment Peter realized what he had done, he wept. And yet, Peter's failure wasn't the end of his story. After the Resurrection, Jesus met Peter again. Three times He asked him: βDo you love me?β And then Jesus gave Peter an invitation: βFollow me.β (John 21:19) Jesus didn't leave Peter sitting in his failure. And He doesn't ask us to remain in ours. Examination looks back so that grace can lead us forward. π―οΈ π βLet your eyes look straight ahead, and your gaze be focused forward. Survey the path for your feet, and all your ways will be sure.β (Proverbs 4:25β26) In this episode, we'll explore: πΉ Why Catholics examine their conscience πΉ How examination helps us check our spiritual direction πΉ Peter's denial of Jesus and his restoration πΉ What hardness of heart can keep us from receiving πΉ Why the Church calls us to examine ourselves before receiving the Eucharist πΉ The importance of silence and interior reflection πΉ What to do when God reveals something He is asking us to review The Catechism reminds us of the importance of examining ourselves as we prepare to receive Christ in the Eucharist. Because ultimately, we examine the heart because we are preparing it for Someone. Him. The Lord. β€οΈ π€ HEART CHECK Before moving on, sit quietly with the Lord and ask: Is there something I've been replaying instead of bringing to You? What step are You asking me to take? Lord... what are You asking me to review? Where are You asking me to grow? Show me how to follow You. π Subscribe and join us as The Examination continues and we look more deeply at conscience, conversion, sin, mercy, and the ways God calls us closer to Him. Until next time... remain in His truth, rest in His mercy, and return to Jesus.
