The latest victim of the Bury Your Gays trope is Killing Eve, however the trope has been around for A WHILE. The biggest fan outcry came in 2016 when 20 lesbian characters, featured in 3 or more episodes of a television series, were killed off. But, there is a longer history to the trope from the trial of Oscar Wilde, to Lesbian Pulp Novels, and the Hays Code which dictated what could be shown in film. The pure amount of LGBTQ+ deaths shown on screen is honestly ridiculous. All we can hope is that writers learn from the mistakes of shows and movies past and pave a way forward for more happier representation.
