Your legs can tell you a lot about your circulation — often before anything hurts. As a vascular surgeon, three things on your legs make me stop and look closer. First, swollen legs or leg swelling, especially when one leg is more swollen than the other or the swelling builds through the day. Second, skin changes around the ankles, where the skin gets darker or thicker. Third, a leg wound that has been there for weeks and still is not healing. None of these automatically means something serious. But they are not signs I would ignore. In this video I break down the three leg signs I check first in clinic, what each one can point to — vein problems, poor leg circulation, or arterial disease such as peripheral artery disease — and when it is worth getting looked at rather than waiting. Key learning points • Swelling that is one-sided, or that gets worse as the day goes on, is different from swelling that is equal in both legs. • Skin around the ankles turning darker, thicker or firmer is a change worth mentioning to a doctor, not just a cosmetic issue. • A wound on the leg that has not healed in weeks is a reason to ask why, not to wait longer. • These signs can relate to varicose veins, vein valve problems, or reduced blood flow — they do not confirm a diagnosis on their own. • Any one sign alone is not automatically serious. Persistent, worsening or one-sided changes are the ones to act on. Take a quick look at your legs once in a while. If something alarms you, get it checked. #VascularSurgeon #SwollenLegs #LegSwelling #LegHealth #Circulation 🔹 EDUCATIONAL DISCLAIMER This video is for educational and awareness purposes only.
