This fight is pretty much 100% luck. With the right strategy you can beat him, but how long it takes it completely random. I'm playing on the 360 so it's really hard to do things quickly with the menus.. Things get a bit hectic towards the end. You can tank anything with Tortoise. If you have everyone developed in the Sentinel Role you really shouldn't need defensive accessories later in the game, if anything it's better to be ultra aggressive as enemies become more dangerous with lower health. In this fight it's almost necessary. You might be able to survive Wicked Whirl without it but he tends to pick off low health party members and it's difficult to heal when he's in an attacking phase. Keep your party members healthy and buffed up (or at least free of debuffs) for when you do get an opening. With a bit of luck you can take off massive chunks off his health when he's staggered. Alternatively he may decide to just throw up Impenetrable Aura the second you hit him with Poison. It's a really cool fight, but I really feel like his Impenetrable Aura is too random. Sometimes he just spams it during the start, if this happens you might want to just restart. Towards the end of the fight he doesn't use it as much, which is also a bit problematic because this gives you less time to heal. Fun times. His invincibility is literally completely random.. but he leaves himself open for longer then his health is lower. Well not really, he uses Wicked Whirl instead and you need to turtle up and heal BUT you can start getting some longer chains. Unfortunately he also spams a lot of attacks, most of the other ones aren’t too dangerous on their own but they take decent chunks out and can interrupt or even launch you. Just because he decides not to put his shield up doesn’t mean you’ll get any free hits in here. Slow actually does work throughout the fight, it’s just hard to tell because of how fast he attacks later in the fight. It doesn’t prevent his barrier or Wicked Whirl from going up, but you really don’t want to fight him without it. You won’t be able to fight back without Vigilance if that’s the case. He gets REALLY annoying at the end. If you get really lucky you can kill him in one or two staggers. Other times he will simply use Impenetrable Aura or Wicked Whirl INTO Impenetrable Aura, or he will constantly interrupt and debuff you so you can’t get hits in with Commandos. He doesn’t actually have any Physical or Magic Resistances, but takes half damage from all elements. One big issue here is that he tends to dodge quite a few melee hits, but that’s where you can really take chunks off his health. Imperil was mostly just for raising the Chain faster with Ravagers. I was mostly just trying to line up Slow and Deprotect so I could be more aggressive. I ended up going with Vanille here for a few reasons: She has the debuffs and buffs I needed, has a higher chance or hitting debuffs, is the best medic, and I wanted at least one ranged attacker. I had a few times where it would constantly backtrack away and both Fang and Lightning would miss with their attack chains.. Vanille also has the second highest DPS on Ruin, so she ended up being a pretty good choice overall. You probably want to manual Fang or Vanille here. The AI Medics can really let you down when you need them. Fang has access to Slow and Vanille has Poison. They both get all the -ra level buffs as well which can help quite a bit if you manage to get him Staggered. Not only can you output more damage but you can take a few more hits before healing with Protectra up. I have no defensive accessories equipped. Everyone just has Kaiser Knuckles/Magistral Crest and Genji Gloves. If you kept all 3 pairs of your Genji Gloves, they help a lot here. It's pretty easy to break the damage cap if you manage to get him staggered, you'll want to hit as hard as possible wen you get the chance. Vanille was actually hitting the damage cap on Ruin at a few points, I should have had my extra pair on her.. It also helps a LOT to have an Infiltration Paradigm if you want to land debuffs. This guy has insane debuff resistances. This is also true of buffs, especially if you're using -ra level buffs you'll want a Rapid Growth Paradigm. There's a few unique Cie'ths in the game, but Vercingetorix is by far the hardest and the true Super Boss of this game. Attacus can also be considered a Super Boss, but he's more manageable at earlier stages of the game. Vercingetorix pretty much requires extensive development of secondary roles if you want to survive.
