Composer: Jonathan Shaw (b.1995) Date: November 2014 "One of my few early compositions on which I actually wrote the date when I finished it – 26th November 2014 – this piece was written to accompany an area of hostility in a video game, whether it be a dungeon, or a cave of monsters, so on and so forth. The idea to write a "Hostility Theme" came from when I was playing the much loved video game, 'Dragon Quest IX' and came across this unnerving track. From then on I wanted to have an attempt at creating my own unnerving theme, and this is the result. Even though I wasn't sure whether the game I was planning would involve hostile areas, I wrote a theme for it nonetheless..." As a composer in the 21st century, I thought it might be interesting to catalogue and share on all of the projects I have undertaken, both for your own curiosity, but also for my own personal reflection on my development as a composer, and to some extent, a practitioner. In short, this "C List" is the "Chronological List" for all of my major projects, including my own works, but also transcriptions and arrangements of other composer's works, educational tasks, and unfinished works that merit cataloguing. For each of the works, I provide a reflection (a "reminiscence") about its context, how, and why I wrote it, as well as some analyses. On some of these projects, I have recorded the entire compositional process itself, which again may offer some insight into compositional methods of 21st century music. ------------------------------ Software Used: ★Sibelius 6 Student ★Adobe Premiere Elements 15 ★EastWest Sample Libraries © Jonathan Shaw 2018
