Could Donald Trump use America's "Mother of All Bombs" against Iran? The United States is reportedly considering the GBU-43/B MOAB, one of its most powerful non-nuclear bombs, for potential future strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear-related sites. According to CNN's October 15, 2026 report, the US military has developed new strike options involving the Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb, commonly called the Mother of All Bombs. However, no final order to use the weapon against Iran has been confirmed. **WHAT IS THE MOTHER OF ALL BOMBS?** The GBU-43/B MOAB is a massive American conventional bomb weighing approximately 9,800 kilograms. It measures over 9 metres in length and contains about 8,500 kilograms of explosives, with a blast equivalent to approximately 11 tonnes of TNT. The bomb was developed ahead of the 2003 Iraq War, partly to create psychological pressure on Saddam Hussein's forces. Its famous nickname also echoes Saddam Hussein's reference to the "mother of all battles" during the 1991 Gulf War. **WHEN WAS THE MOAB FIRST USED?** On April 13, 2017, the United States used the MOAB for the first time in combat against an ISIS tunnel complex in Afghanistan. A later satellite-imagery analysis identified 38 destroyed buildings within a 150-metre radius of the blast. **WHY COULD TRUMP USE MOAB AGAINST IRAN?** US military planners are reportedly examining potential strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear-related facilities, including Pickaxe Mountain. But there's a major limitation. Unlike specialised bunker-buster bombs, the MOAB is designed primarily to create an enormous blast near the surface. Experts question whether it could destroy nuclear-related facilities buried approximately 80–100 metres beneath Iran's Pickaxe Mountain. According to CNN, some officials believe the weapon could serve a psychological purpose, even if its military effectiveness against deeply buried sites is limited. Its use would also raise serious concerns about civilian casualties and further escalation. In this video, discover the history, explosive power, Afghanistan deployment and limitations of America's Mother of All Bombs. Could the MOAB achieve the objectives of a new US strike on Iran?
