This is Ranganathan Street, T.Nagar located in Chennai, South India. As you can see in the video, a narrow strip of land is filled with people, people and more people! If you need to travel through this street, simply enter and the crowd will slowly push you through the rest of the street. Everyday more than a million people travel through the street and this number quadruples during festival times. Ranganathan Street is most crowded during the festival of Deepavali (Diwali), which is when I shot this. Why is it so crowded? Because the shops here sell everything from safety pins to gold jewelry. The other reason for the overflowing number of people is because of the presence of Mambalam Railway Station located at the other entrance of the street. This makes people use this street as a pedestrian throughfare too. It was very interesting to capture the street vendors and customers buying knickknacks, eatables, clothes and what not. Most of them are very happy and live a carefree life. I would say visiting the Ranganathan Street is easily one of the top 10 things to do in Chennai.
