One of the things we’ve learned is to slow down the flow back. Wells with lower gas oil ratios have lower decline rates,” Regener explained, describing how Kolibri’s higher oil percentage wells with their approach to managed flowback produce better results over the life of a well. Why decline rates and oil mix can matter more than initial production rates: - In the E&P world, high initial production rates can grab attention, but they often come with steep declines. A well that produces with lower decline rates can be worth just as much or more on a net present value basis. - Kolibri’s Caney wells produce with a high oil cut, which has been trending in the low-to-mid 70% range. Oil commands a premium over natural gas, so a higher oil ratio translates directly to better per-barrel economics. - The Lovina wells came online with an 82% oil mix, although with a lower headline IP. Management believed that the higher oil mix would lead to lower decline rates and still lead to very economic wells, which has been the case.
