The PS5 Pro launched in November 2024 at $699.99, the most expensive PS5 Sony has ever sold. Unlike every PlayStation flagship before it, there was no disc drive in the box. If you wanted to play discs, the external drive was another $79.99 on top. Sony framed that as giving players a choice. But with the console already at that price, plenty of people would have looked at the extra eighty and decided to just buy digital instead. The demand was still there, though. The standalone drive sold out at Best Buy and Amazon within days of the Pro being revealed, and scalpers were reselling it above retail before the console had even launched. Less than two years later, Sony announced it would stop making discs for new games from 2028, saying most players now prefer digital. Sony has never said the Pro was a test of how many people would pay extra to keep their discs. But a drive that sold out that fast suggests a lot of people still wanted one, and this video asks whether players really stopped wanting discs or the price just got in the way. #minecraft #gaming #technology #bytetalk #playstation #sony #viralshorts #shorts
