Every week, we surprise someone deserving of special recognition. We recently received the following message about a couple in Shelley: The Bakers have lived next door to me for approximately 30 years. They are the kindest, most helpful and compassionate people I know. They were my support during the 20 years of 24/7 care of my handicapped parents. My father had lost the use of his entire left side at age 60. Four years before his 82nd birthday, he suffered a double bilateral amputation of both legs. Several times I required help to lift and replace him in his wheelchair (tipped over) on a door threshold. He has helped lift me from a fall when I couldn’t get my feet under me after hip surgery or broken wrists. He mows my lawn, cuts down large trees for more people than I could count. He mows neighborhood pastures, helps move sheds etc. In the winter they shovel snow from sidewalks from State Street to the canal on West Oak. They don’t wait to be asked for help. If they see a need, they just take care of it. We decided to surprise the Bakers and thank them for their service!
