MOM & DAUGHTER WATCH DOCTOR SLEEP (2019) DIRECTOR'S CUT FOR THE FIRST TIME! We're back with another Mom & Daughter Reacts, and this time Tessa (Mama's Geeky) and Lorie are continuing straight into the sequel to The Shining, directed by Mike Flanagan! With perfect timing right after our Shining reaction, we were so curious to see how this story would continue, and going in completely blind to a three-hour director's cut was quite the commitment, but so worth it. Watching adult Danny Torrance struggle with the trauma of the Overlook and his father's legacy had us hooked immediately, and his connection with young Abra Stone was such a compelling new thread. Rose the Hat and the True Knot made for genuinely unsettling antagonists, and this movie does not shy away from dark, emotional territory as it explores people who hunt others for their shine. There were moments that hit us really hard emotionally, and a few scenes were honestly difficult to watch, but they added so much weight to the story. The callbacks to The Shining were done so well, and seeing familiar faces and locations return felt both nostalgic and eerie in the best way. The finale brought everything full circle in such a satisfying way, and we both got emotional by the end. Between the two of us, we actually walked away liking this one even more than The Shining, the story felt richer and the character work stood out so much. Mike Flanagan absolutely delivered with this one. Ewan McGregor stars as Dan Torrance, now an adult grappling with his psychic abilities and his father's dark legacy. Rebecca Ferguson is chilling as Rose the Hat, the leader of a group that hunts people with the shine. Kyliegh Curran plays Abra Stone, a gifted teenager whose abilities put her directly in danger. Jacob Tremblay and Carl Lumbly round out the cast in key roles tied to the story's emotional core.
